Jack The Sailor

More traditional English songs are set in May than any other month of the year. It’s a season of optimism when the last of the winter woes and weather are banished. (Mind you, it’s decidedly cold and lashing down with rain as I write this.)

In today’s song the weather is immaterial. Jack the sailor has returned from sea to claim his true love despite determined opposition from her father.

Thank you to the National Trust for the photo.

Happy May Day!
