Seventeen Come Sunday

I met my wife-to-be when I sang here in Hertford in 1968.
Taking photographs in a tiny lane I heard the rush of wheels and just had time to turn round and snap the couple in the top picture.

English folksong is full of happy chance meetings, especially in May; likewise today’s photos. The tune of Seventeen Come Sunday came from James Brading, Alverstoke Union, Hampshire and the words from James Hiscock, Bartlett, Hampshire. Collected by Balfour Gardiner c.1909.
